A Case of Fournier¢¥s Gangrene
Abstract
In the late 1800s A j. Fournier, a renouned French venereologist, described a rapid, fulminating gangrene of the -genitalia in five young male patients in whom no demonstrable etiology for the process could be found. Although descriptions of genital gangrene which predate Fournier¢¥s description in the medical literature exist, many of the subsequent reports often use the eponym Fournier¢¥s gangrene when referring to a gangerenous process of the penis, scrotum and/or perineum.
As currently used by many authors, Fournier¢¥s gangrene describes a widely destructive, gar grenous process of the genitalia, with little regard for Fournier¢¥s orginal tenets of patient age or definable etiology.
Irrespective of any eponyms used, genital gangrene represents a true urologic emergency. Early identification and prompt initiation of medical and surgical therapy is imperative.
Recently, we experienced a rare case of Fournier¢¥s gangrene which was complained progressive scrotal pain, erythema and voiding difficulty for about three days.
